Review of Maggiano’s Little Italy

Spaghetti and Meatballs at Maggiano'sTo be honest, I really was not expecting much of this Italian Restaurant Chain. I had visions of Dean Martin music playing in the background to take my mind off of overpriced pasta drenched in mediocre red sauce. However, sometimes you are pleasantly suprised…. granted there was a strolling accordion player that looked like something right out of the movie “Moonstruck”, but the food at Maggiano’s was actually good.

Most all items on the menu come in half and full orders and they have a family style menu if you prefer that. Starting out, our waiter warned us not to get the full order of anything unless we planned on sharing and we were?glad we took his advice. They had the standard bread with olive oil dipping sauce which could have been a lot better.

I started out with a half order of their chopped salad with prosciutto, bleu cheese and avocado. When it arrived I was sure they had made a mistake and gave me the full order. It was so big that it could have been a meal in itself. It had a nice, although slightly sweet vinaigrette with fresh tomatoes and just enough crumbled blue cheese to give it flavor but not be overpowering. My fiance had their version of a Caprese salad which had thick ripe slices of tomato with fresh mozzarella, basil and a vinaigrette which did not disappoint her. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of caprese salads, but she could live on them!

Following that came the main course. My fiance ordered angel hair pasta with Arrabiata sauce and I had Rigatoni D which consists of rigatoni with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and chicken in a light Marsala cream sauce. We both felt the Arrabiata was a bit too spicy but still good. The marsala sauce on the rigatoni was nicely flavored without being too heavy.

I would describe the atmosphere as “upscale red checker tablecloths”.? It is very pleasant, but a bit loud and crowded. Request a seat by the window which has a great view of the Las Vegas Strip.? Outdoor dining overlooking the strip is also available.

We rolled out of there a lot heavier and our wallets $55.00 lighter (which included 2 cocktails by the way).

The restaurant is located on the second floor of the Fashion Show Mall over looking the strip across the street from the Wynn resort.
